2007 Season Review
Net Gains made yet another pretty packet for its followers in 2006/07 with an overall profit of 73.84pts over the course of the domestic season - that's nearly seven-and-a-half grand in the clear to £100 level stakes!

That means our subscribers have now cashed in for three successive seasons - not to mention those extra profits secured on Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 - and this season's final profit margin of greater than 10 per cent on turnover is certainly not the sort of figure to be sniffed at in any line of business.

The icing on the cake was a stunning ante-post portfolio.

Bets on Derby to win promotion from the Championship at 14/1 and Brentford to be relegated from League One at 9/1 have both since obliged and our wedge on Shrewsbury to win promotion from League Two at 5/1 also allowed us to make a tidy profit by hedging on Bristol Rovers at the start of the play-offs.But it was on the special bets markets where we had the greatest fun, with the 33/1 on Joey Barton to be Man City's top Premiership goalscorer probably the pick of the bunch.

In total, we cleaned up to the tune of more than £5,000 profit to £100 level stakes on the ante-post markets alone. The small matter of another 12.9pts profit from our match betting in May seemed to pale into insignificance when compared with the overall picture - but it's only right that we give that a mention here as well!

And all this from a service that never once found itself with an exposure in excess of 75pts staked at any time during the course of the campaign. Although a starting bank of 100pts is always recommended, anyone starting with a 75pt bank last August would have virtually doubled their money nine months later.

It has to be said, the Net Gains service is unrivalled when it comes to consistent profits and we look forward to more of the same next season. Make sure you don't miss out!

TOM MILLARD
How long have you been betting:
I was happy to do the odd accumulator while at university but only really started taking it seriously when I persuaded my dad to rescue a PC from the skip at his work. After opening a few accounts online I was well on my way.
How did you get into tipping:
I joined Sporting Life in 2002 on the editorial team after spending a couple of years in IT. I'm now happy to combine my tipping with being full-time on Betfair.
Specialist subjects:
Motor racing, football, rugby league and cycling. And I'll admit to betting on Big Brother as long as you don't breathe a word to anyone....
Biggest Winner:
Laying Portsmouth for relegation after Harry Redknapp took control. I'd almost written off the bet until their spring revival.
Greatest Coup:
My most satisfying result was backing Steve McClaren for the England job at healthy odds when it seemed clear he would always be under consideration as the 'easy option'.
Betting philosophy:
Kipling once said "If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same... you'll be a man, my son." In other words, it's imperative to keep a level head whether you're winning or losing. Unfortunately he also suggests risking all your winnings on a game of pitch-and-toss, which undermines his argument slightly.
Claim to fame:
I used to race alongside (or rather behind) Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson in karting in the early 1990s.

How long have you been betting?
I placed my first eight-team accumulator in the local bookies at the age of 13 and have been passionate about betting on football ever since. However, it was only the arrival of the internet, tax-free betting and exchanges that made me believe it was possible to make a long-term profit from my punting.
How did you get into tipping?
I'm known for being a bit of a statto because I've always been obsessed with research and analysis where football is concerned, so a natural desire to write football previews was always going to come to the fore once the internet had given me a platform to share my views with a wider audience.
Specialist subject:
Coca-Cola League football. I find the game to be more transparent the further down the leagues you go and the trends are easier to follow. So long as you're prepared to spread the net far and wide for information, you will always have an advantage over the layers who generally allow football at the highest level to dominate their thoughts.
Biggest winner:
My greatest punting moment came back in February 2005 when I landed eight bets out of eight on a Saturday afternoon to win £1700. The fact I was in Prague on a weekend break as I watched the results come through on Soccer Saturday made the moment all the sweeter.
Greatest Coup:
Backing Kevin Keegan to be the next manager of Manchester City in May 2001. I knew he'd always had a great affection for City and was good friends with director Dennis Tueart, so he was the obvious candidate when Joe Royle got the boot. I couldn't believe my ears when I was offered 12/1. I also made a tidy sum backing Stuart Pearce to succeed him at 9/4 in April of last year. He was an odds-on shot in my book.
Betting philosophy:
Never allow crucial information to escape your attention through a lack of research. Never chase losses. Never bet for the sake of it. Three obvious pearls of wisdom but they're easier said than done.
Claim to fame:
My uncle Doug was capped seven times by England in the 1950's and played in three cup finals, including the 'Matthews Final' of 1953. He also scored the opening goal in the 1964 final for Preston against West Ham. Meanwhile, former Big Breakfast presenter Mike McClean is a good friend - we go back years. He's currently doing the outside broadcasts for Richard & Judy.

TOM'S GAME PLAN

Bookmakers can often be careless when pricing up football markets. With the increase in competition and the rising number of televised games, layers are under pressure to come up with more markets in more matches. Most are able to price up accurately and let their margins cover any minor errors but sometimes they can misjudge a price, which is when I aim to pounce.

Whether it is reacting quickly to news of key injuries, looking at crucial referee stats or delving deeper than the one-dimensional form tables used by the bookies, I aim to keep you one step ahead of the layers. Every bet I recommend will be a significantly longer price than I believe it should be.
