Former Scotland boss Craig Brown believes Harry Redknapp could manage England on a part-time basis - but not beyond Euro 2012.

The Tottenham manager is odds-on favourite to succeed Fabio Capello who resigned last night following talks with Football Association chairman David Bernstein at Wembley over the FA's decision to go over his head and strip John Terry of the England captaincy.

With Premier League title aspirations, Spurs may battle to hold on to Redknapp which could raise the prospect of a part-time appointment

But Brown, now manager at Aberdeen, said: "It should be do-able up until the Euro championships in the summer.

"But not in the longer term.

"It would not be ideal. It would devalue the job of national team manager."

It appears the English media is leading the clamour to appoint Redknapp which Brown believes leaves other potential candidates in a tricky position.

"Harry Redknapp seems to be the obvious choice for the job and I would agree with that," he said.

"But I wouldn't envy any other manager who got the job.

"It would be, 'what if Harry had been in charge?'

"So it is inevitable that they go for Harry.

"He is ideally equipped to do the job and he has a number of terrific players at his disposal."
