Premier League pair prepare to do battle for Championship star impressing this season

Michael Rose, Coventry City, February 2022.

Premier League pair Burnley and Southampton have identified Coventry City defender Michael Rose as a summer target, per a report.

Rose is currently in his third season in English football. The Scot joined Coventry from Ayr in 2019, where he had been for three years.

The defender played a big part in Coventry’s League One success in 2019/20. He played 31 league games, in which the Sky Blues conceded just 30 goals.

He has been a feature of the Coventry squad in the Championship this season, playing 17 times and scoring once.

Now the Daily Mirror, per The72 suggests Premier League pair Burnley and Southampton are keen on the centre-back.

While Rose has been capable when he has played, surely there is a reason he is not in the team every game.

As such, the Premier League may be a step up in his career just yet.

However, Burnley may well be relegated this season given they sit dead bottom, seven points from safety. As such, they may lose James Tarkowski, who has been on the radar of a number of Premier League sides of late.

Indeed, Burnley would be a strong Championship side, and Rose could further his career there, as a replacement for the star. The Clarets would surely be contenders to go back up, should they be relegated.

That could be Rose’s ticket to the Premier League, as well as affording him the opportunity at another season to progress in the Championship beforehand.

Rose could be among Southampton moves

Rose could be one of a number of transfer moves at Southampton, should they be the side to sign him. The Saints are keen on signing loan star Armando Broja permanently.

The Albania international has scored six Premier League goals during his time with Southampton.

The Saints, however, are not the only side interested in the hitman. Premier League big boys Arsenal are reportedly keen on moving for him.

Chelsea, his parent club, may be less keen on selling to a direct rival, though.
