Accrington chairman Ilyas Khan has stepped down from his role at the League Two club with immediate effect.
Khan, who has invested more than £2million into the club over the past two decades, announced his decision at Stanley's AGM on Friday night.
Club president Peter Marsden will replace the former investment banker, who saved his hometown club from extinction by footing a £250,000 unpaid tax bill in 2009.
"I cannot adequately express in words the feeling and passion I have for the club and the town," said Khan in a club statement.
"I have been honoured to have been able to help. I am now simply pleased that I have fulfilled exactly those objectives that were set out three years ago."
"I wish the incoming directors every success. I now look forward to taking up my normal seat with the fans."
