Accrington snap up duo

Stanley have lost back-up shot-stopper Andrew Dawber to a thigh injury which has left them with only Fleetwood loanee Scott Davies on their books.

Boss John Coleman is worried about the lack of cover behind Davies and has moved to bring in Warner, who lists the likes of Liverpool, Fulham and Millwall among his formers employers, on a short-term deal.

Warner would become Accrington’s ninth goalkeeper to appear in a game this season if he were to get on the pitch and it would be the first time he has played in a competitive game since he last appeared for Tranmere in 2011.

Explaining the move, Coleman said: “Andrew Dawber’s injured and we’ve taken a chance over the last couple of weeks with no keeper on the bench.

“That’s not ideal, it’s tempting fate, and you’ll get your fingers burnt if you keep doing it.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about something happening to Scott Davies with no cover available and we don’t want to try to keep getting away with it.

“Tony’s helping us out. He has a good football pedigree but he’ll also be good to have around the place. He’s coaching now at Bolton but will be able to play for us and it’s an ideal situation for both of us.”

Coleman had spoken earlier in the day about keeping one eye on piecing together his squad for next season and he revealed that was the motivation behind signing teenage winger Jennings, who is yet to appear for Latics’ first team.

“He’s got a good pedigree and he’s done well at Wigan,” added Coleman.

“He now needs to get league experience. We have half an eye on looking at loan signings for next season and that’s something to consider.

“He’s a very attacking player and we have to look at all attacking options for this season and next season. This ticks the boxes for us.”
