Aldershot captain Ben Herd is weighing up an offer from an unnamed League One club while Anthony Straker is leaving the Recreation Ground.

The pair are out of contract later this month and have both been offered new deals to remain with the Hampshire outfit, but Herd's future hangs in the balance and Straker's lies elsewhere.

Manager Dean Holdsworth, also due to hold talks with out-of-contract goalkeeper Jamie Young, told Aldershot's official website: "Ben has a predicament as a player and a captain. There is interest from a division above and he has ambitions and I understand that.

"Ben loves playing here, but at some point we will come to a time where I will have to say that I cannot wait any longer. He knows that and I am also aware that he could phone me to tell me that he has taken another offer. I respect that and I have a great deal of time for Ben, but that point will come very soon."

Holdsworth added: "With regards to Anthony Straker we have a different situation. He turned down our contract offer. We didn't want him to go but he had a conversation with me that he felt that it was right for him to leave.

"He understands that if we make him an offer then we are entitled to compensation as he is under 24. I haven't spoken to Strakes since that day, but his agent is fully aware of what the club is entitled to."
