I think Kenny was trying to sign him when he was with us, but rather than bringning in Klavan, I’m just wondering whether we missed a trick in not signing Scott Dann to bolster our defense just in case anything happens to Lovren or Matip.

Klavan, sakho, Gomez seem to be decent back up for matip and lovren. I’m certainly not bothered about not having signed Dann…I believe he is a Liverpool fan though which would obviously be nice but nahhhhh

Would Dann have signed to be a squad player? I don’t think he would have

That’s the only probable yet an important factor that may have prevented a potential move. The proof of that theory is Martin Kelly. I think it got to the point where Rodgers was straight with him. I genuinely would have been delighted to have kept Kelly and have Scott Dann too.

I wonder whether Flanagan will be back with us for good or whether that loan move will turn into something for keeps.

Is flanno even playing at Burnley? If he can’t get into their team and prove his fitness, it’ll have been 3 seasons of not playing football, and I doubt he would ever be able to fit into a Klopp team at full back given the requirements of that role

Harsh reality mate if that’s the state of play on Flanno. A crying shame as I rated him and felt he was a key component for us during 13/14 under Rodgers.

Flanagan did play yesterday but as a sub., so Ian is correct in thinking that he cannot get into their 1st eleven. I doubt if he will make it with LFC.

Is the reason that Flanagan can’t get in the Burnley team regularly down to fitness though? With all respect to Burnley,if they have a better RB than Flanno,I’d like to see who it is. The whole point of him going to Burnley was so that he could build his fitness up and get game time. If he’s not getting regular game time, there’s no point in him staying there in my opinion

Our defence needs time and matches more than anything else. I hope anyway!

Full agreement with S/t on this; I thought the whole purpose of the loan move is so he’d be an auto first choice and both player and club benefit.

Sean Dyche mentioned earlier Jon Flanagan would miss the start of the Premier League season due to his lack of playing time. He replaced Steven Ward who injured his hamstring before the break in the game against United, he should get more game time as his fitness level improves.

Hope his game time does increase…and if dyche said that he would miss the first few weeks due to fitness then that is actually kind of encouraging as an excuse for his rare sightings so far this season.

If he doesn’t play, I expect we will make a fair bit of money from the loan – don’t we demand they play in a certain % of fixtures, and if they don’t then there are financial penalties
