Celtic: Players were magnificent at Celtic Park

TEAMtalk rates the Celtic and Barcelona players from the Bhoys' famous 2-1 win over the Spanish superstars at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

CELTIC

Fraser Forster - The Englishman made two terrific saves in the second half and can even claim an assist for Watt's goal. 8

Mikael Lustig - Survived an early penalty claim but performed well to force Barca attacks into the middle of the park. Subbed for Watt. 7

Adam Matthews - His pace stopped Pedro from beating him on the wing and he formed part of a superb defensive display. 9

Efe Ambrose - Nipped in to stop passes into the box time and again. Worked well with his central defensive partner to close down Messi and Pedro. 9

Kelvin Wilson - Organised an outstanding defensive display. Followed Messi and shut him down as well as a defender can. 9

Charlie Mulgrew - Played on the left of midfield and helped Matthews with defensive duties. Typically sublime corner for Celtic's first goal. 8

Joe Ledley - Stuck to his position and prevented Xavi and Iniesta from passing through the Celtic defence. 8

Victor Wanyama - Broke up play early on and drove Celtic forward. Helped out defensively when Barca set up camp outside the Celtic box. Gave Valdes no chance with powerful header for opening goal. 8

Kris Commons - Had more of a defensive job than usual, but that is expected when playing Barcelona. He helped Lustig on the right-side of defence but still managed to get forward. 8

Giorgos Samaras - Was the target man rather than usual wing position and was isolated as Barca dominated possession after conceding. Subbed for Kayal. 7

Miku - Played a deeper role and beat Song on a number occasions as he tried to link with Samaras. Closed down Barca in midfield but was booked for one rash tackle. 8

Substitutes:

Watt - On as a substitute for his Champions League debut and finished superbly as Xavi failed to cut out a long pass. His pace tested Mascherano in the latter stages. 8

Kayal - helped out in midfield as Celtic closed out a famous win. 7

BARCELONA

Victor Valdes - Had only two things to do the entire match and that was to pick the ball from his net after Celtic's goals. 5

Daniel Alves - Played in the opposition half most of the match and sent in a number of looping crosses. Couldn't control a Xavi pass as he broke through the Celtic defence. 6

Jordi Alba - Not the best night for the player who scored the winner when the sides met at the Nou Camp. Didn't challenge Wanyama as he headed Celtic into the lead and had little impact going forward. 6

Javier Mascherano - Coped with Samaras well when Celtic got the ball forward but struggled with Watt's pace as the substitute stretched the game. 5

Marc Barta - Let a cross bounce in the box that almost allowed Mulgrew to score another Celtic goal. Subbed for Pique. 5

Alex Song - Booked early on for tugging Miku as he broke clear and was wasteful in possession compared to his midfield partners. Subbed for Fabregas. 5

Xavi - Dictated play for his side after they conceded but was constantly forced to pass the ball wide. Missed Forster's punt as Watt raced in to score. 6

Andres Iniesta - Had plenty of the ball as was expected but was unable to find Messi or his attacking partners in dangerous areas as Celtic closed down space. 6

Pedro - Forced inside by Matthews and struggled to have any real impact on the game. 5

Alexis Sanchez - Despite his height he got up between Wilson and Ambrose for a header but saw it come back off the post. Subbed for Villa. 5

Lionel Messi - Was generally well marshalled by the Celtic defence and only burst into life in patches. Clipped the bar in the first half and scored from a couple of yards after Pedro's shot was saved. 6

Substitutes:

Villa - Had a few shots but couldn't find the target. 5

Pique - Replaced Barta but couldn't stop Celtic win. 5

Fabregas - Little time to make an impact.
