Bournemouth director Tom Mitchell has hailed Scott Malone as 'our Gareth Bale' after the winger inspired a victory against Exeter.

Malone, who made his loan deal to the Cherries permanent in January, came off the bench to score one and set up the other goal in the 2-0 win.

"He's an exciting player and the type of player supporters want to come and see. He reminds me of Gareth Bale and I think they share the same attributes," Mitchell told the club's official website.

"He's an exciting player with a lot of quality. He works hard, he's got loads of pace and can beat people for fun. He's almost the complete midfield player."

The Cherries spent big in January and the acquisition of winger Donal McDermott may have inspired Malone to fight harder for his place, according to Mitchell.

He added: "He looked fired up when he came on, and maybe he had a point to prove after we signed Donal. He showed he wants a place in the starting line-up next week with his performance."
