Parkinson: Thoughts are with Egan

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson's pleasure at seeing his side beat Plymouth 1-0 was tempered by a serious injury to John Egan.

The Irishman, 21, on loan from Sunderland, was stretchered off with a broken right leg in the 12th minute when he fell awkwardly after heading the ball 10 minutes before captain Gary Jones netted the only goal.

Parkinson said: "I was pleased with the win, but my thoughts are firmly with John Egan. It looks to be a bad injury. He is now in hospital and I'm going to see him.

"It was great to win, but John's injury was the real sad point of the night. It is too early to say what he has done, but it didn't look good."

Parkinson called for a positive start after the 1-0 defeat to Exeter on Saturday, and added: "We started well, but the injury changed the mood in the ground and Plymouth played a direct style sensing they might take advantage of our losing a centre-half, but I thought the back four handled it very well."

Parkinson, who drafted in Egan as cover for first-choice central defenders Andrew Davies (knee) and Luke Oliver (Achilles), who recently sustained season-ending injuries, will meet the club's joint chairmen, Jonathan Rhodes and Mark Lawn, on Wednesday to discuss more possible loan signings.
