Brentford chairman Greg Dyke wants to follow the example of Brighton as they continue with plans to build a new stadium.

The Bees hope to move from Griffin Park to a new ground nearby with a capacity of up to 20,000 by the start of the 2016 season, and Dyke is confident that with a successful team they will be able to attract enough supporters to fill it.

"I know some Brentford fans, used to a 5,000 gate, are sceptical whether we would ever fill such a large stadium," said Dyke in his column for the club's matchday programme.

"I'd ask them to look at what has happened to Brighton as a result of getting promotion and a new stadium at the same time - and it's our ambition to achieve both by 2016.

"In their first season in the new stadium, Brighton sold some 16,000 season tickets when their attendances in the years before the move averaged around 6,000 at Withdean Stadium.

"A year after moving into their new stadium Brighton have plans to add a further 8,000 seats and have had several 26,000 sell-outs this season. It's time for all of us to have faith."
