Nicky Maynard has branded his move to West Ham as a chance that was "too good to turn down".

The former Bristol City striker signed on with the Hammers on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee, bringing to an end a drawn-out contract saga at Ashton Gate.

Maynard had previously called time on negotiations of a new deal with City, forcing the Robins to invite bids for the former Crewe man, and eventually it was npower Championship leaders who came up with a suitable offer.

The forward has since signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with an option of a further year at Upton Park and he has wished his old club well, telling Bristol City's official website: "I enjoyed my time at Bristol City but the opportunity to move to a massive club like West Ham, who are destined for the Premier League, was too good to turn down.

"I thank everyone connected with (Bristol City) for giving me the chance at Championship level and I loved scoring goals for the team and the fans. I have respect for everyone there and plan to keep in touch with the lads and staff. I hope the team continues to progress and I'll look out for the results.

"I fully expect the club, under this management team, to continue to move up the table and they'll be fine come the end of the season."
