Victory – Pools’ third win in a row at home – closed the gap on the top seven to three points and they now sit in 10th.

Rovers possess the worst away record in Sky Bet League Two and on this display it is easy to see why.

Only 58 seconds had gone when Pools took the lead. Jack Barmby’s corner was headed on by Luke James and Marlon Harewood was left unmarked to head in his second goal for the club.

Pools doubled the lead after 16 minutes, with a touch of class. Bradley Walker took a touch to create space in midfield and curled a delightful shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards.

The midfielder was denied a second from similar distance with Rovers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall going full-stretch to tip it over.

Pools hit a third goal in the 56th minute. Harewood was bundled over in the penalty area by Tom Parkes and Simon Walton confidently rolled home from the spot.

The only time the visitors threatened was when a shot from substitute Chris Beardsley hit the crossbar in the 84th minute.

Pools capped it off in the 90th minute when Jon Franks cracked in a shot from 12 yards after James had hit the post.
