Gary Rowett was left to rue Calvin Zola's penalty miss as Burton ended their League Two campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Barnet.

After Jacques Maghoma had cancelled out Mark Byrne's opener for the visiting Bees, for whom victory at the Pirelli on Saturday preserved their Football League status, Zola had the opportunity to put the home side in front from the spot after he was bundled over in the box.

But the striker skied his penalty and Burton were made to pay on the hour when Mark Hughes netted Barnet's winner, leaving Rowett frustrated.

"I'm disappointed because we should have put the penalty away and that would have been two-one to us," he said. "The game would have been very different, but we missed it and it gave them a lift.

"Second half, they obviously wanted it a little bit more than us. They showed more desire to win the 50-50s.

"They were prepared to run, they were prepared to chase, and they were prepared to tackle."
