Manager Gary Rowett sees Burton's Capital One Cup clash against Sheffield United as the ideal way to begin the new season.
Albion are due to travel to Bramall Lane in the week commencing August 13, for what will be the opening game of the campaign with the npower League Two schedule not due to start until the following weekend.
"It's another exciting draw for us," said Rowett. "We've had some terrific games in the last couple of years, taking Cardiff and Burnley to extra time.
"It will be a good test and I think the lads will be more excited about the game as it comes ahead of our first game of the season. It's a nice little curtain raiser."
The two sides met for the first time in a competitive fixture last season in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, with the Blades winning 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium after Justin Richards' goal gave Albion the lead.
