Pope heads to Bury

The 22-year-old moves to the JD Stadium having made nine appearances for the Addicks since August, the last of those coming against Blackburn two weeks ago.

Pope spent the majority of last season on loan at York where he kept 16 clean sheets in 24 appearances for the Minstermen.

Addicks goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts said: “Popey has gone until the end of the season to hopefully chase promotion.

“We see him as an asset to Charlton and spending the second half of this season on loan was always part of the long-term development plan we have in place for him.

“He got his chance sooner than expected this season due to Stephen’s injury and generally did well.

“He will benefit from those experiences further down the line and this spell at Bury will be another good opportunity for him to play 25 or so games of football at a competitive level.”

He goes straight into the squad for Friday’s match against Accrington and will return to the Valley on May 24.
