Dagenham boss John Still felt losing to a last-minute penalty in their Capital One Cup first round tie with Coventry was tough on his players.
Kevin Kilbane's spot-kick won the game for the Sky Blues just as it looked like the League Two side were going to take the game into extra time, much to Still's disappointment.
The Daggers boss said: "I was delighted with the performance but it was harsh for us to lose the game on a penalty.
"There was not a lot in it for both teams, so it was disappointing to lose in that manner.
"I was quite satisfied with how we played. Hopefully we can start the season well and build on the positives of this performance."
