Gary Smith hopes Stevenage have started as they mean to go on after beating AFC Wimbledon 3-1 to reach the second round of the Capital One Cup.
It is the first time Stevenage have ever reached round two, with three first-half goals rewarding an impressive performance.
Boro host Carlisle on Saturday as they start their league campaign, and Smith is full of confidence ahead of the game.
He said: "We're all encouraged by the way the game unfolded.
"There were some really encouraging signs as we go towards the weekend when we play here again against Carlisle.
"I thought our midfield bossed the game for long periods. There are a lot of new faces in this group and the signs are very good."
