Carlisle manager Greg Abbott has refused to set a figure on how many players he wants to sign this summer.

The Cumbrians released Craig Curran and Stephen O'Halloran at the end of the season and midfielder Tom Taiwo has refused to sign a new deal, while defender Mike Edwards has arrived from Notts County.

Abbott, hopeful Peter Murphy, James Berrett and Frank Simek will all sign new deals, told the club's official website: "What I will say is that if a signing is right, and the player is available, then we are going to do what we can to bring him in.

"I'm reluctant to work on numbers or exact figures because it can set expectation levels and can even sometimes cause confusion."

He added: "We keep saying we want to improve and if we can do something to help that we will.

"We'll make sure we're as far ahead of the game as we can be with any of the targets we have already identified and if things move there we should be in a good position to at least have a foot in the door."
