Asamoah too hot for Accrington

admin

All the early pressure came from Carlisle as Accrington goalkeeper Jack Rose had to dive full length to keep out Asamoah’s 18-yard shot.

Asamoah was a constant threat to the Accrington defence with his pace and he gave Carlisle the lead midway through the first half when Billy Paynter ‘s pass gave him a clear run through on goal.

Asamoah coolly slipped the ball past the advancing Rose into the bottom corner for his fourth goal of the season.

Accrington finally managed to get a foothold in the game with John O’Sullivan’s raking 30-yard shot beating Dan Hanford’s dive but flying a foot wide before Seamus McCartney failed to make the best of an opening, slicing his effort into the side netting.

Kyle Dempsey and Danny Kearns went close for Carlisle after the break and Rose saved brilliantly from Steven Rigg.

But the home side’s inability to deal a decisive blow led to some late jitters, with Sean Maguire almost squeezing a header past Hanford at the near post and Lee Molyneux wasting a free-kick in a dangerous position.
