Chris Powell wiped away the tears as he paid tribute to his team after they got promoted to the Championship with a 1-0 win over Carlisle.
They were tears of joy after Bradley Wright-Phillips had supplied the vital only goal of a thrilling contest in the 76th minute
Powell said: "It's a fantastic day for my players, my supporters and the football club. It is a small step forward in our history and I am just so proud to be at the helm.
"The staff, players and board have all backed me from the day I came in and days like this don't come round very often. It's my mum's birthday as well so it seems it was meant to be.
"The Championship is something for us to look forward to. The two Sheffield teams have been on a tremendous run, but we stood up to the pressure.
"It plays will your emotions sometimes when you are a manager. My wife and children must wonder what is going on at times because I think deeply and want to do well."
