Cheltenham's run to the FA Cup third round funded the purchase of winger Jermaine McGlashan, according to chairman Paul Baker.

McGlashan signed from Aldershot last week for an undisclosed fee, as the Robins look to strengthen ahead of their promotion to push in League Two.

And Baker revealed Cheltenham, who reached round three of the world's most famous knockout competition before losing 3-0 at Tottenham, were able to bring the 23-year-old to Whaddon Road because of the cash generated by their cup exploits.

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "It was a five-figure fee. It's a fee I would have never expected us to be paying.

"The lion's share has come from the FA Cup run. It just shows that the club is in a much better state now and we're not going to let this season tail off."
