Shaun Harrad has returned to Bury after his month's loan at Rotherham came to an end.
The 27-year-old striker made eight appearances, scoring three goals, for the Millers which prompted boss Andy Scott to try and extend the deal for another month.
However, after negotiations stalled with his parent club, Harrad will return to Gigg Lane, much to the disappointment of Scott.
"Shaun will be going back unfortunately," he said. "I spoke to Richie (Barker) but they've had two injuries in midweek during their defeat with Sheffield Wednesday, so that's a disappointment.
"Shaun's disappointed he's got to go back but that's the nature of it, and we'll keep in contact with Bury in case anything changes but this is one time of the season when we don't want to be a player light.
"We've got more irons in the fire, but we'll see if anything changes at Bury, and see if it changes Richie's view."
