Cheltenham manager Mark Yates was frustrated by the nature and timing of the goal his side conceded in their 1-0 defeat at Crewe.
Dave Artell netted the winner for Alex just before half-time following a free-kick to move Crewe into the play-off places and keep sixth-placed Cheltenham nervously looking over their shoulders.
"We knew they were a decent side but we played well first half, so to concede a set-piece in the 44th minute was really disappointing," said Yates.
"We haven't created enough today and when we did we didn't hit the target which sums us up at the moment.
"We need to be a bit braver and get more people in the box if we are going to start scoring again away from home. But I'm not going to criticise my players, I have no complaints as they gave everything.
"But we won't feel sorry for ourselves, we will go again and we are still in a great position. We are a point ahead of Crewe and four ahead of Oxford so we will take that."
