Cheltenham defender Steve Elliott has agreed a new one-year contract with the League Two outfit.

The 33-year-old former Derby centre-back made 44 appearances for Mark Yates' men last season and lined up in the side that missed out 2-0 against Crewe in last month's Wembley play-off final.

Elliott joined the Robins from Bristol Rovers in 2010 and is the second out-of-contract player to commit himself to the club in the close season after fellow defender Harry Hooman penned a new deal last week.

"I'm pleased to have got everything done and dusted and I'm looking forward to starting next season," Elliott told Cheltenham's official website. "I've been with the club for two years and over that time there has been an improvement in all aspects of the club, both on and off the pitch, so it was an easy decision.

"We showed last season what we are capable of and there is no reason why we cannot do better again next year. The core of the team is already in place, I think there are one or two players still to tie up, but if we can bring in a couple of new players as well then I think we'll be in very good shape.

Alan Bennett, Jeff Goulding, Luke Summerfield, Bagasan Graham, Scott Brown and Keith Lowe remain in the negotiating process over new contracts.
