Colchester boss John Ward said he would "take it on the chin" after deeming Bournemouth's opening goal offside in a 1-1 draw at Dean Court.

Tom Eastman snatched a late equaliser for the visitors in the 83rd minute after turning-in substitute Michael Rose's driven cross, to cancel out Shaun MacDonald's 11th-minute opener, which had been set up by Wes Thomas in an offside position.

Ward said: "We've come from behind from a disputed goal. We've come from behind with real character because we could have wobbled then. We could have let that affect us.

"But the mood and the way we played, particularly in the second period, was very, very strong. So there's no relief about it at all. It was fully deserved.

"He [Thomas] is in an offside position. He's two yards ahead of my back four. He goes to play the ball but leaves it because there's another player who's not offside, but who comes into that position.

"The bottom line is that he's in the penalty box area and he's in an offside position. He lets the ball run through and we're looking for a flag that didn't come. I've never met an assistant or a referee that's been wrong yet, so we'll just have to take it on the chin and move on."
