John Ward said he was pleased for his players after Colchester finished their home campaign with a 4-2 triumph over Tranmere.
The U's halted a run of 11 games without a win in some style, with goals from Ian Henderson, Tom Eastman, Ian Goodison's own goal and Freddie Sears, while James Wallace and Jake Cassidy replied for the visitors.
Ward said: "It was great to score four goals at home and for me, it's what they deserve.
"I'm really pleased that they've gone out at home on that high and it's what both the players and the supporters deserve. We had around 4,000 here and it was one of the worst days of the season for weather.
"We're a very close-knit football club and all of their players' families were here. The conditions were very difficult, but we played them pretty well and I think that we deserved to win the game.
"We had more opportunities to score and it was a nice way to finish. I think there's a lot more to come from these players, but whether or not I can keep them together, I don't know.
"There's going to be changes here this summer, but I've not had any problems with any of my players and their attitude is brilliant."
