Colchester midfielder Kem Izzet expects to sign a new deal with the club before the end of May.
Izzet, who celebrates a decade with the U's in his testimonial this weekend, is keen to settle his future.
"There's no real rush and everyone knows that me signing a new contract is just a matter of time really," he told Gazette News.
"It's a case of trying to get the best deal for both myself and the club.
"I don't expect there to be any problems and I think it'll be signed in the next week to 10 days."
The testimonial will see three of the clubs promotion-winning teams from the last 20 years return for the event.
