TEAMtalk rates the players' performances as England and Ukraine fought out a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Tuesday night.
JOE HART: Helpless with the goal but helped out by some generous finishing too. 6.
GLEN JOHNSON: Went close with one fine slalom and shot but gave ball away more than once and not at his best at the back. Booked. 5.
PHIL JAGIELKA: Chasing shadows at times and a terrible pass almost saw Ukraine make it 2-0. Saw a header from a corner blocked. 6.
JOLEON LESCOTT: Not his best night. Criminally gave the ball away for the goal and also booked. 5.
LEIGHTON BAINES: Got forward sporadically but also struggled defensively against Oleg Gusev. Made a vital challenge to prevent Ukraine scoring a second goal. 6.
FRANK LAMPARD: Face-saving penalty moved him level with Bryan Robson with 26 England goals. But largely anonymous otherwise. 6.
STEVEN GERRARD: England's best player creatively and defensively and was arguably unlucky with his first booking. The second was simply unnecessary. 7.
JAMES MILNER: Worked hard as always and went close to scoring but largely ineffective. 6.
TOM CLEVERLEY: A nightmare evening for the Manchester United midfielder. Gave the ball away early on and missed three good chances, one of them a sitter before being withdrawn. 5.
ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN: Lively and looked a genuine threat at times but not in the areas that would really hurt Ukraine. Was eventually substituted. 5.
JERMAIN DEFOE: A little unlucky to see his goal disallowed as England were repeatedly penalised for raising their arms. Lively throughout as well. 6.
DANNY WELBECK (for Cleverley, 62 mins): Hit the post with the goal at his mercy but won the penalty and definitely made a difference. 6.
DANIEL STURRIDGE (for Oxlade-Chamberlain, 69): Also had an impact, crossing for Welbeck to hit the post. 6.
RYAN BERTRAND (for Baines, 73): Substitution raised eyebrows but it did have a positive effect. 5.
ANDREI PIATOV: Goal led a charmed life at times and some wayward distribution. 5.
YEVGEN SELIN: Produced a good block to deny Milner in a committed display at the back before being withdrawn. 6.
YEVGEN KHACHERIDI: A little unlucky to give away the penalty as the ball struck his arm, seeing him booked. Solid otherwise. 6.
ANATOLIY TYMOSHCHUK: Led by example as Ukraine fought for every ball. 6.
DENYS GARMASH: Good midfielder screen and got forward well at times, volleying over stretching for Selin's cross. Booked. 6.
ROMAN ZOZULYA: Almost as wasteful in front of goal as Cleverley but his overall contribution was far better. 6.
OLEG GUSEV: Almost scored with a deflected cross that hit the post as he tormented England in the first half. Less effective after the break. 7.
YEVGEN KONOPLIANKA: Incredible goal and twice almost set up a second on the break. Outstanding. 8.
ANDRIY YARMOLENKO: Showed some lovely skills on the ball but helped get Defoe's goal chalked off with some shameful play-acting. 7.
RUSLAN ROTAN: Unlucky not to open the scoring when Gerrard threw himself at the ball. Also blocked Jagielka's header. 6.
YAROSLAV RAKITSKIY: Part of a strong defensive unit that got a little ragged as full-time approached. 6.
VYACHESLAV SHEVCHUK (for Selin, 75): Like-for-like replacement. 5.
MARKO DEVIC (for Zozulya, 89): No time to make an impact.
SERHIY NAZARENKO (for Rotan, 90+2): No time to make an impact.
