Drury keeps Red Devils hot

Chris Dagnall’s toe-poke had cancelled out Gwion Edwards’ opener for the Red Devils as Orient failed to follow up their thumping 5-1 win over Gillingham.

Orient, now with only one win from their last seven games, threatened early on when defender Elliot Omozusi fired an angled shot over the crossbar after Crawley’s Mike Jones had a low drive saved by visiting goalkeeper Jamie Jones.

Crawley broke the deadlock after 26 minutes when winger Edwards, on loan from Swansea, scored for the second match running on his full debut by firing a pass from Dannie Bulman into the bottom corner.

Orient striker David Mooney should have hit the target moments later, but put the ball wide with only goalkeeper Paul Jones to beat.

Russell Slade’s side pulled level six minutes before the interval through Dagnall, who tapped into the bottom corner after Mathieu Baudry had helped on Lloyd James’ corner.

Edwards ended a strong run by firing an angled drive over for Crawley shortly after the interval and later had a goal-bound shot turned over the crossbar by Jones.

Former Ipswich winger Drury rose unchallenged to head Crawley in front in the 70th minute from an assist by Mike Jones.

Mooney might have levelled for Orient 13 minutes from time, but his low shot was saved by Jones and the O’s striker also had a stoppage-time shot cleared off the goalline.
