Orient’s top scorer Chris Dagnall went close early on when his low shot was parried by Crawley goalkeeper Lewis Price following a pass by Dean Cox.

Cox then forced Price to tip over his goal-bound shot from the edge of the penalty area before Dagnall’s close-range effort was saved by the Crawley goalkeeper.

The hosts broke the deadlock after 33 minutes when striker McLeod hit his 18th goal of the season from the penalty spot after being brought down by defender Luke O’Neill, who was booked for the challenge.

Crawley midfielder Anthony Wordsworth went close to doubling the home side’s advantage shortly before the break when Orient goalkeeper Alex Cisak parried his fierce shot.

The visitors’ Danish goalkeeper Brian Jensen replaced Price at the interval and produced a smart save to deny Marvin Bartley in the 52nd minute.

Orient enjoyed good spells of possession in a tight match and Jensen also kept out a long-range drive from Italian defender Andrea Dossena.

Jensen ensured victory by producing vital saves to deny substitute David Mooney and Ryan Hedges in stoppage time.
