Peterborough v Crawley preview

Jack Payne and Luke James are set to return for Peterborough’s final home game of the season against relegation-threatened Crawley but Kgosi Ntlhe is suspended.

Midfielder Payne, the Posh captain, and striker James both missed the 1-1 draw with Barnsley through injury. Ntlhe was sent off at Oakwell and the full-back will not play again this season after receiving a two-match ban.

Youngster Leo Da Silva-Lopes could make his debut on Saturday. Manager Dave Robertson has written to the 16-year-old’s school to ask permission for him to train with the first-team on Friday ahead of him potentially starting at the weekend.

Jon Taylor is struggling to recover from his knee problem and the winger’s season looks to be over. Jermaine Anderson (toe) and Jack Baldwin (knee) remain long-term absentees for Peterborough, who are without a win in six matches.

Crawley can welcome back Marvin Elliott, who is fit after missing the 2-0 win over relegation rivals Notts County with a shin injury.

Elliott could replace Anthony Wordsworth in midfield after he went back to Ipswich at the end of his loan spell with the Reds.

Josh Simpson made his first appearance since November following a hamstring injury against County and, having got more than an hour under his belt with no reaction, he could figure against his former club.

Conor Henderson (ankle) and Dean Leacock (groin) are therefore the only injury absentees.

Manager Darren Ferguson has no injury issues to contend with as Peterborough look to maintain their 100 percent start to the season.

Joe Newell is fit again after a hand injury and the midfielder is expected to feature for the development squad next week in a friendly fixture.

Ferguson’s side made it six wins from six matches as they swept aside Reading in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. The Posh boss made four changes for the second-round tie and admits those players that came into the team have given him food for thought.

“I have a difficult decision to make,” said Ferguson. “The four players that came into the starting line-up did very well against Reading, but I know in my mind what I am going to do and the players will know on Friday.”

Emile Sinclair could make his Crawley debut at Peterborough – just two days after he left Posh to join the Sussex club.

Striker Sinclair on Thursday completed his switch to the Broadfield Stadium, signing a two-year contract, and is in line for a quick reunion with his old team-mates.

Midfielder Josh Simpson will also be on familiar territory having begun his career at London Road.

Boss Richie Barker has no new injury worries and could opt to hand a full debut to winger Luke Rooney, the recent signing from Swindon.
