Crewe boss Steve Davis was left to rue his side's missed chances as they were held to a 2-2 draw at struggling Macclesfield.

The Silkmen took an unlikely lead through Lewis Chalmers' penalty but Nick Powell's brace, showing the touches of class that make him one of the division's hot properties, looked to have sealed victory for the Alex before Colin Daniel's late equaliser.

The point extends the Railwaymen's unbeaten run to 13 games but Davis believed his side should have come away from the Moss Rose with all three points, which would have moved them into the play-off places.

"It was a good performance, my players played well, we were just guilty of not finishing the game," Davis said. "We should have done because we had a lot of chances.

"We showed great spirit to get ourselves in front after being a goal down and we showed the quality that we've got in the team.

"We were guilty of being a bit naive in trying to go for that third goal when we should have sat the midfield two a little bit deeper and let the forward four do the work, so we showed a little bit of inexperience in that situation."
