Steve Davis feels Chuks Aneke's superb goal in Crewe's FA Cup victory over Wycombe will win over the youngster's doubters.
The Arsenal loanee let rip with a second-half missile to kill off an entertaining first-round tie after the hosts had initially made heavy weather of injury-hit Wanderers. It was the third goal of Aneke's temporary stay at Gresty Road and his stunning 61st-minute finish will help to appease fans who have carped at his laid-back style.
"Chuks gets a lot of criticism for his style and the way he lumbers around," admitted Davis. "But he's got great feet and he can shoot like that with both.
"He switched it from right to left and unleashed a terrific dipping shot. There was only one thought in his mind - we know he can score those sort of goals."
Crewe shrugged off an early blow and a penalty miss to coast into Sunday's draw. Goals from Mathias Pogba, Mark Ellis, Aneke and Luke Murphy usurped the 13th-minute lead given to Wycombe by Matt Spring's rasping shot.
"We didn't start particularly well and [goalkeeper] Alan [Martin] has got to do better than that," said Davis. "But we showed character to come back. We controlled the second-half and created numerous chances. In the end we could have had seven or eight."
