Ray relief for Crewe

It was feared Ray had fractured ribs following a collision in the 4-0 defeat to Rochdale earlier this month, and he missed the Alex’s win over Scunthorpe on Saturday.

However, manager Steve Davis revealed the Wales Under-21 international is now back in non-contact training, while he could be in line for a matchday return when Crewe travel to promotion hopefuls Preston.

“George has bruised his ribs after a collision at Rochdale,” Davis told a press conference. “He will train today, but it will be non-contact to see how he does. It will stop him getting another blow in that area.

“You do miss the players who have been playing in the team and George has had a decent season. He has done well since he has had a run of games and he is still learning the game. He heads the ball well in both boxes and we miss his aerial presence.”

Ray has made 31 appearances this season in all competitions for Crewe, who are seven points clear of safety.
