Burnett commits to Dagenham

Burnett initially joined the Daggers coaching set-up in 2009 and he has been in charge of the first team since February 2013, managing to keep the club in the Football League that season.

The Daggers finished in mid-table last season and another mid-table finish is on the card this time round.

“I am pleased that we’ve managed to get this done and I’m happy I’m now going to be here for another two years and we can now push on,” Burnett told the club’s official website.

“There are a lot of players out of contract, but if we can keep the nucleus of our team we will be okay. There will be players that will be departing and we will try and keep them, but they’ve probably made their minds up, but we will see.

“I’ve spoke to a number of players, we’ve been in discussions and spoke to them regarding staying. We want an idea of where we are going to be, but with a club like ours we are always rebuilding.

“That’s the difficult part, you get a group of players and we do okay, they’re then out of contract and want to move forward. That’s part of what we do.

“I’d like to think we can keep some of the key players this season, three or four have indicated they would like to stay. Until they actually put pen to paper, there is always an opportunity they may leave, but I know there are some that are keen to stay.

“There’s a new season coming up, with teams going up and going down and I’d want us to keep the same form as we’ve had in 2015.

“It’s always a competitive league, there will be new players, but also more experienced players who will help us push forward. With any player that leaves, there will be new players available because I think there will be lots of players out of contract again in the summer.

“I have enjoyed my last two seasons in charge, there have been ups and downs – there has been a lot of disappointments.

“But I’ve definitely enjoyed my time here overall and we’ve managed stay in the league for another season which is a fantastic achievement – not just for us, but for everyone who plays their part.”
