Relegated Darlington turned in another poor performance at home as Grimsby gave themselves hope of avoiding the drop with a 2-0 win.

The Mariners took the lead in the 21st minute when defender Oliver Lancashire headed in a corner from Peter Sweeney from 12 yards.

Grimsby doubled their advantage two minutes into time added on at the end of the first half. Michael Coulson set up Jean Louis Akpa Akapro with a knock back from the bye-line and Akapro gave Liversedge no chance with a side foot volley from 10 yards.

Darlington had their chances, but failed to take them. Top scorer Tadhg Purcell was set up by Mor Diop in the 18th minute but delayed his shot and allowed the Town defence to clear the danger and then Purcell headed over the bar on the hour as Darlington chased something from the game.

But Grimsby's win could have been greater as Lee Peacock saw his overhead kick saved by Liversedge in the 63rd minute and former Darlington loanee Jamie Devitt was denied by the busy Darlington keeper in the 73rd minute.
