Doncaster down Swindon

Theo Robinson’s successful first-half spot-kick got Rovers the points, while the Robins hopes of saving the game were dashed when substitute Michael Smith had a late second-half penalty saved.

Robinson’s winning goal came after 26 minutes and brought Doncaster a sixth away victory of the season.

Doncaster goalkeeper Sam Johnstone flung himself low to his left 12 minutes from the end to beat out Smith’s spot kick, awarded for a foul by Reece Wabara on Andy Williams.

The visitors probably deserved their win against a Swindon side that would have spent Christmas at the top of the League One table had they managed to convert a series of missed opportunities early in the second half.

Lining up with two banks of four, Doncaster continually frustrated the Robins who, chasing a sixth straight win, were unable to get their normal game together.

It was not until the second half that the hosts managed to really threaten, but when they did Jon Obika thudded a shot against the upright, and Nathan Byrne, Andy Williams and Ben Gladwin shot wide.
