TEAMtalk's Peter Hall rates the Italian and Spanish players after Spain dismantled Italy 4-0 in Sunday night's Euro 2012 final in Kiev.
ITALY RATINGS:
GIANLUIGI BUFFON: Looked to be brimming with pride at kick-off, but will be hugely disappointed with his team's showing. No chance with any of the goals. 6
IGNAZIO ABATE: Got forward when he could, but with wave after wave of Spanish attack coming at him, he was powerless to resist the onslaught. 5
ANDREA BARZAGLI: Was so impressive against the Germans in the semi-final, but Spain made him look like a fish out of water. Struggled to cope. 5
LEONARDO BONUCCI: Much like his Juventus team-mates, he had a difficult time, and was chasing shadows for much of the evening. 6
GIORGIO CHIELLINI: (Off 20 mins). Had a torrid opening 20 minutes, and went off injured after giving the ball away. 5
ANDREA PIRLO: After dismantling several nations in this tournament the majestic Italian met his match. Xavi and Iniesta were in a different league. 5
CLAUDIO MARCHISIO: After falling behind, he tried his utmost to influence events, and was behind what little creative spark the Italians could muster. 6
DANIELE DE ROSSI: Gave the ball away too often, and never got going. Didn't get forward as much as he would like, but he simply wasn't allowed to. 5
RICCARDO MONTOLIVO: (Off 56 mins). Completely anonymous all game, and could do nothing as Iniesta and Xavi passed the ball around him. 5
MARIO BALOTELLI: Failed to live up to the pre-match hype, and rarely looked likely to be taking home the coveted Golden Boot. Looked frustrated all game. 5
ANTONIO CASSANO: (Off 45 mins) Had one low fizzing drive in the first half, but was otherwise a spectator. Ramos certainly had his number. 5
SUBS:
FEDERICO BALZARETTI: (On for Chiellini 20 mins): Italy's best player. Had a real go at Arbeloa in the first half, and got into some great crossing positions. 7
ANTONIO DI NATALIE: (On for Cassano 45 mins): Had a great chance early in the second half to get his side back in it, which could have changed things. 5
THIAGO MOTTA: (On for Montolivo 56 mins): Lasted five minutes. Hamstring went without being challenged, leaving his side with 10 men. 4
SPAIN RATINGS:
IKER CASILLAS: Solid stop from Cassano drive in the first half, and fantastic point-blank save from Di Natale at an important point in the game. 8
JORDI ALBA: Looks a snip at £12million. Defensively untroubled and rounded off a fine tournament with the expertly-taken second goal. 8
GERARD PIQUE: Silenced any doubters with his performances throughout the competition, and never looked anything but assured all match. 8
SERGIO RAMOS: Not his most difficult of nights, but stood tall when Balotelli tried to barge his way through, and could have scored himself early on. 8
ALVARO ARBELOA: Got forward well throughout, and handled the forward runs of Balzaretti whenever he threatened to make inroads. 7
SERGIO BUSQUETS: Along with Alonso, nullified any threat Pirlo and Co posed, without moving out of second gear. Sprayed the ball around with ease. 8
XAVI HERNANDEZ: Came close early on with thunderous effort, and laid on a typically sublime assist for Alba's second goal, and Torres' third. Magnificent. 9
XABI ALONSO: Barely broke sweat as he dictated play from his own half. His team-mates did the rest. Has been one of the players of the tournament. 8
ANDREAS INIESTA: (Off 86 mins). Glorious pass in build-up to first goal, and controlled proceedings from start to finish. Made Pirlo look distinctly average. 9
DAVID SILVA: (Off 59 mins). Finished off fine move to open scoring and was a constant threat down the right flank. Unlucky to be substituted. 8
CESC FABREGAS: (Off 75 mins). Showed good strength and poise to pick out David Silva for the opener, and was as much of a goal threat as any striker would pose all match. 8
SUBS:
PEDRO: (On for Silva 59 mins): Will be disappointed he didn't get his name on the scoresheet after having several chances to do so. 7
FERNANDO TORRES: (On for Fabregas 75 mins). Not bad for a night's work. One assist and one goal, bagging the Golden Boot in the process. 7
JUAN MATA: (On for Iniesta 86 mins). Would you believe it. His only involvement in the whole competition was to slot home into an empty net. 7
