Deulofeu done supporting Barcelona as he launches huge Koeman rant

Gerard Deulofeu Watford

Former Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu says he “doesn’t care” how Ronald Koeman will fare in his new job at Barcelona, detailing his troubling experiences under the Dutchman.

Deulofeu, now at Watford, spent half a season with Koeman at Everton in the 2016/17 campaign. He only featured in 11 of 22 Premier League games, however, before going on loan to AC Milan.

Following that loan, the Spaniard chose not to stay on with the 57-year-old at Goodison Park and moved back to Barcelona.

Speaking to Radio Catalunya (via The Independent), Deulofeu has now detailed why he will not be watching to see how his former coach gets on at Camp Nou.

“I can tell you about Koeman from my personal experience,” the winger said.

“He provided me absolutely nothing. I wasn’t happy, I asked to leave and I went to Milan [on loan]. We’ll see how he does at the Camp Nou.”

Deulofeu also claimed that Barcelona’s La Masia academy needs restructuring if it is to succeed.

“The truth is that Barcelona’s [situation] does not bother me,” Deulofeu added. “In fact, right now, I don’t care.

“At Barcelona, they have not had patience with La Masia for years. If you give [the youngsters] time, they learn the style of the first team.

“There are players, many of us have come from there, but not patience. Now there will be changes, but they are years behind.”

Deulofeu moved back to the Premier League with Watford in January 2018, initially on loan from Barca.

He made that move permanent in the summer of that year but missed the final portion of last season with a serious knee injury suffered against Liverpool in February.

The two Dutchmen worked together for the Netherlands and the Reds lynchpin has entered the final year of his deal.

Liverpool are yet to agree an extension with Wijnaldum, meaning Koeman could swoop in for his compatriot.
