Tisdale relishing Cummins form

The former Preston player has scored four goals in his last eight games despite suffering an injury at the start of this month and he put in an all-action display as the Grecians won 2-0 at Morecambe on Sunday.

And Tisdale revealed the Irishman’s hard work and personality, coupled with an extended run in the team, has made Cummins a real asset.

“I think we are seeing the best of him,” the Grecians boss said. “He is coming into a different style of football than he has played at other clubs.

“He is a very willing runner, a nice chap with very endearing characteristics around the dressing room and the club and we like him very much and he gets on well with the players.

“It is a good start for any business to have some people who are liked and are warm to others and he is that. He works very hard and will get his fair share of goals. He is a very hard worker and it goes without saying in our team we need forward who do that. It is a large part of our team.

“He defended extremely well in the first half. We had a lot of the ball but whenever they broke he was the one who took that space. We spoke about him doing that before the game, that was Graham’s job and he did it really quickly and read it really quickly. He did a lot of work.”

Roughly half of Cummins’ wages are paid by a group of Exeter’s supporters known as the 1931 Fund who have been helping finance a player in Tisdale’s squad since 2009.

And while their previous two selections, Callum McNish and Elliot Chamberlain, failed to make an impact on the first team, Cummins has really hit the ground running.

Tisdale added: “It is nice they can see their endorsement playing and contributing.

“We changed tact this year, in the past they’ve wanted to go for someone that was more of a punt but with Graham it was very much a case of he was coming to play in the team. Hopefully they are enjoying their endorsement this year.”
