Harley makes Exeter return

The 29-year-old playmaker, who scored 32 goals in 144 appearances for the Grecians between 2008 and 2011 as they clinched back-to-back promotions, has fallen out of favour at The County Ground and signed a loan deal which will become permanent in January.

The former Brighton man’s return will be a huge boost to Exeter supporters who will see their former hero reunited with fellow midfielders David Noble and Liam Sercombe – a combination which helped City to an eighth-placed finish in League One back in 2010/11.

“Ryan is a good footballer who is a good signing because he knows a lot about the way we play and his record speaks for itself before,” boss Paul Tisdale said.

“His expectations are high about what the team can, should, might achieve and I’d like to think he will add to us.

“On the face of it it looks like something that will add and enhance our performances. This is a player to add to what we are building at present and developing.”

Harley, who spent a spell training with Exeter last month, has not played a competitive fixture since March 15 and Tisdale admits it will take time for City’s new number 33 to get back to his best.

“He has not trained with us for the last month so that process needs to happen again,” Tisdale added. “We will need to assess his fitness because he has not played a game for a long time and his training has been a bit sporadic.

“I think we need a little bit of common sense on everyone’s behalf in terms of when we thrust him back into action.

“We are looking at this with a sensible view, he is someone who will add to his team and I am certainly not going to rush the impact he will make on our play.

“I am going to see how it pans out in the next few days in training.”
