Grayson praise for Robinson

On-loan Aston Villa striker Robinson scored twice for Preston in the first half and added a third with a penalty 10 minutes from time to set up a second-round clash with either Walsall or Shrewsbury – while the hosts saw Brian Stock and Warren Cummings sent off.

“We are grateful to Aston Villa for allowing Callum (Robinson) to come out and play for us,” said Preston manager Grayson.

“He is only a young lad making his way in the game, so coming to a place like this and getting a hat-trick will be great experience for him.

“He has got a fantastic understanding of the game and works hard on the training ground.

“He has got two quick feet and a good footballing brain. He has got great movement and is a handful for defences.

“We have got some good footballers and a very strong squad but we had to make sure the players were fully focused and prepared.”

Havant manager Lee Bradbury said: “To go one-nil down so early was tough to try and get back into the game.

“Preston are a quality side who have won eight of their last 10 matches against some top sides in League One and they have quality players.

“The lad Robinson came in and showed what a good player he is but we did not really apply ourselves until we went behind.

“From where I was standing I felt we had a couple of shouts for a penalty but I had no complaints about the red cards.

“Warren’s was an instinctive reaction and Stock has been brilliant for us since he came in, he is not the type of player to put his team-mates into trouble.”
