Wigan FanZoner Mike Roby hopes for another top-four scalp

Who said being a football fan was easy?

After an emphatic draw at home to Portsmouth, we march into Sunday’s lunch-time kick off against Arsenal with renewed hope, as this volcanic pressure which is building up after only scoring four goals in our last 10 games is set to be released.

Will my Little Wigan turn the tables and defeat this Arsenal side by a similar margin Tottenham beat us this season (9-1)? This is not impossible if Arsenal score nine “own” goals and we keep things tight at the back!

Enough of the sarcasm, it’s very difficult to see where our goals are coming from right now and after Wednesday nights opportunity to “seal” our Premier League status, I’m left with a level of anxiety about the remaining four games.

We play two of the top three clubs as we entertain Arsenal at home this Sunday and Chelsea away on the last game of the season. Taking our current form into account, you have to say our only chance of picking up points is in our other two games, which are West Ham away and Hull at home.

Not so fast!

This may sound like “loyalty” but if you look at the stats, this team lead by Roberto Martinez has achieved twice this season something no other Wigan manager has ever achieved. That is, beating teams in the top four.

Go all out

You could be forgiven for not recalling the 3-1 win over Chelsea at home which seems like light years ago now. We also beat Liverpool 1-0 at the DW Stadium. Now on Sunday we entertain Arsenal, another top-four club at the DW and we have to go all out for the win.

In order for us to achieve this I would like to see Victor Moses start only his second game for us. We have utilised his services nine times as a substitute and he deserves his chance. Moreno has shown nothing to get excited about up front and Scotland has been unable to build on his goal at Fulham. Rodallega is the only striker displaying consistency but he can’t do it alone.

Many people ask “is Moses good enough?” and it’s a very good question. The answer is simple: we can’t sign Jesus because the transfer window is closed so Moses is our only option.

OK bad joke, but he has to be given a chance to prove himself and what better stage than against the Arsenal.

My prediction for Sunday’s game is 1-0 to Wigan. In order to achieve this the lads will have to play the game of their lives. Fingers crossed Martinez plays Eye of the Tiger before they come out, I have a feeling we will need it!

Keep the faith Wigan, we’re in this together to the death!

Press red from 1pm on Sunday to see Mike on the FanZone mic for the Latics.
