West Brom FanZoner Alistair Jones hails the current stability of the club but fires a warning to some of the Hawthorns faithful.
As a West Brom season ticket holder for over 30 years, I have had my fair share of ups and downs.
Granted since Sir Gary Megson arrived to revolutionise our club we have had considerably more ups than downs. We have changed both off and on the field possibly more than any club.
I remember watching us train on a bit of grass opposite the Halfords Lane Stand only 11 years ago. We now have a state of the art training ground and academy bearing its earliest fruits this year in George Thorne & Izzy Brown, with many more in the production line, critical to the long term success of clubs of our size.
Under the stewardship of Jeremy Peace and his board, we have a much envied scouting network unearthing free transfers like Claudio Yacob and Player of the Year Gareth McAuley and players for very low fees like Youssuf Mulumbu (£100k) and Graham Dorrans (100k).
Yet there are a growing number of our fans that complain now more than they ever did. Now, don't get me wrong, I have been known to have a rant on occasion after an unexpected loss, but let's put things in context. Losing by the odd goal at home to Arsenal & Man City isn't like seeing Crewe stick five past you at home.
In the past few seasons, our fans have been loudly critical of players warming up. Can anyone tell me the possible benefits of booing a player warming up?. I'm not talking about what happened at the weekend with Odemwingie as that has a completely different agenda to what I'm talking about, but booing the man of the match chosen by the sponsors because its Chris Brunt can only have a negative effect.
I know people pay a lot of money to express their views, and there is an argument that they pay for the privilege, but supporters are there to do exactly that - support.
I know that we aren't unique in having fans moan and whinge, but I honestly believe this season, our most successful season in years, the minority has grown.
Next season, let's get right behind our team and continue our fantastic achievements of the last couple of seasons, and who knows, this time next year, we could be dusting our passports off!!!
Have a great summer. Boing Boing!!
