Southampton FanZoner Olly Chanot gives his take on the departure of Nicola Cortese from St Mary's Stadium.
Usually the January transfer market is an exciting time for most, but for Saints fans it is proving to be a time of uncertainty, chaos and a couple of games in between. Nicola Cortese, the man in charge of the club for the last five years, has left St Mary's.
Nicola has been a love hate character down south in terms of his handling of Nigel Adkins, Matt Le Tissier and Alan Pardew, but what we are today seems to be because of the man.
He is spoken of very highly by both managers and players and was the rock that supported us all, but also the glue that kept us all together. Not only did we progress to the Premier League, but we also made a profit.
Cortese had a big influence in bringing in some great players but he also helped us keep some young, growing talent. But will his departure now send our club into turmoil? I don't know and don't think any person would bet on knowing what exactly will happen. Will Pochettino leave the club? Will some players follow his exit?
What I do know is that down south it has been a constant roller coaster, from the Premier League to League One and back, and now we are back in the top flight it seemed we were making progress, so what now?
These are nervous times down south and owner Katherina Liebherr certainly has some explaining to do. What we fans want are answers and pretty quickly so we can carry on with what was a great start to the season and have some knowledge of what will happen to the club, not just in this transfer window but for seasons to come!
All I can say along with the Red and White faithful is we will always love this great club and we just hope we can get a replacement with that same view. COYR!
