Snodgrass shines for Canaries

admin

Norwich City will feel this season hasn’t been one to remember. The buzz and excitement of the season ahead has all but extinguished as City find themselves in a relegation battle.

The host of ‘big money’ signings made by former manager Chris Hughton was a new concept for the East Anglian side; yet many of them have failed to reach their potential. Only a handful of players in the yellow and green can be said to have had good individual seasons. I wonder if fans would have thought this particular individual deserves the plaudits and recognition he is getting?

Robert Snodgrass has stood up this season. Setting the standard for his team-mates, the Scot has continually showed what he can offer. His infectious work ethic amalgamated with his rawness on the wing has put him on Norwich City’s player of the season short-list for sure.

This week’s narrow defeat to top-of-the-league Liverpool took the shine off what was a fantastic display. Snodgrass was a stand-out performer for the Canaries, who battled their way back into the match from two goals down. The former Leeds United winger’s determination has been commendable and he has backed it up with a number of excellent performances.

Every player has their critics, but not many can have any qualms over Snodgrass’s performances of late. Any team in a relegation battle needs passionate players who can deliver the goods when needed. For me, Snodgrass has been Norwich City’s best player. Offering intricate football on either wing, or through the middle where he is currently being utilised, Snoddy has grown to become an invaluable asset to Neil Adams’ squad. A set-piece specialist who always looks lethal from any dead-ball situation, the Scottish international is making a name for himself in the Premier League.

Off the field, Snodgrass has been instrumental in attempting to rouse the Norwich City crowd. His endeavour and thirst to see Norwich City succeed is appetising and reassuring for the yellow army supporters. His animation on the field earns him the odd caution, but for me, that merely exudes his passion to win. Additionally, whilst there has been a clear dryness in goals from the forward players, Snodgrass has taken the pressure off his team-mates as he has contributed a healthy amount of goals this season.

With three games remaining, I have no doubts that Snodgrass will continue to give his everything for the club in aid of achieving Premier League safety for another season.

However, if City cannot secure survival, I can’t see us securing the services of Snodgrass for much longer…
