Phelan right to take Norwich reigns

So Neil Adams has stepped down as manager.

Adams, who was youth team manager before his appointment as first-team boss, struggled to live up to the expectations set by the club.

The size of the job seems to have bettered Adams, but the former manager insisted he was on track.

“I firmly believe that we are still on course for a crack at promotion back to the Premier League. That is where this club belongs,” he said.

“However, I feel it is in the best interests of the team that an immediate change is made in order to ensure a positive impact on results.

“It goes without saying that I sincerely hope the team achieves success this season and I would like to say a huge thank you to the supporters who have backed me during my tenure as manager.”

Norwich currently lie in seventh place in the Championship, eliminated from both cup competitions and in a spot of bad form.

First-team coach Mike Phelan has been given the role as caretaker manager, an appointment the club look likely to make permanent.

Interestingly, when Phelan arrived at the club, questions were immediately asked to Adams: “Has Phelan come in to take over your job?” The former City player merely answered “no”.

However, taking a closer look at the situation, could Norwich have probed Adams to resign, giving their favoured man, Phelan a chance to take over the helm at Carrow Road?

Since his arrival at the club, it has been suggested Phelan has become the top dog and was making the decisions for the team. It might be merely speculation, but with the character of Phelan sitting under the inexperienced figure of Adams, did the Norwich board see a shift in role responsibility?

As a Norwich fan, I would jump at the chance of Phelan to become our full-time manager; he has a CV that would attract any club in the world; to have him at a Championship outfit shows the potential the Canaries have.

He is a huge role model in the game and not afraid to make cut-throat decisions; it seems it’s time to move away from the nice guys of Hughton and Adams, and adopt a bit more of a disciplined approach at Carrow Road.

Norwich need someone who can instil fear, passion and gusto into the players, and I think Mike Phelan could be that man.
