Dover the worst?

Gills finding form

So what was all the fuss about then I hear you say? After all the wasteful, empty handed, winless and quite frankly soul destroying trips encountered by Gills supporters over the past 18 months – the incredible actually happened, a Gillingham victory away from home! – For those not at Oxford a lie down in a dark room was most definately needed!

Just days later and the short trip to ex manager Mark Stimson’s Barnet produced the same outcome! – a Gills victory! Had the world gone completely mad you ask! We were all happy to bask in the glory of winning a single away game so to be victorious twice on our travels in the space of three days is quite amazing! – like buses you wait an age for one and then two arrive at once! The Barnet result was more impressive considering the side had to fight back from a goal down to win which really is unheard of!

After the shocking FA Cup exit at the expense of Dover there were obviously a lot of home truths told at the club between the chairman, manager, coaching staff and players and quite rightly so. The response has admittedly been fantastic from all involved – much helped by the loan additions of the impressive duo of Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee both borrowed from Peterborough, who have both been different class in their three outings for the club to date. Hopefully Posh boss Gary Johnson hasn’t noted this and let’s them both stay for an extended period! They really aren’t that good Gary – honest!

fantastic

I’m sure I speak for all fellow Gillingham supporters by saying how fantastic it is to see Simon King back in the Gills squad for the Oxford game. Hopefully all goes well with his forthcoming reserve games and we all look forward to seeing Kingy back in that blue shirt again! With Garry Richards, Curtis Weston and Andy Barcham all due back as well the squad is going to look very strong soon – well on paper anyway! Then again football matches arent played on paper!

Due to the adverse weather conditions and the fact we didn’t feel the need to compete in this year’s FA cup competition has meant The Gills have not played for nearly three weeks. However, weather permitting the side are due to head north to Macclesfield this weeked looking for three away wins on the trot – now that would be miraculous!

After the first back to back wins all season Gills must now build on and follow up with another decent result against The Silkmen otherwise all the hard work in achieving these two victories will feel wasted. Any succesful side needs at some point in their season to go on an unbeaten run to get the momentum going. We should certainly now be looking at moving up the league two table and not peering down at the bottom sides as we have been in recent weeks!

However, as all Gillingham supporters can vouch – we should not take anything for certain as you just never know what’s around the corner!

Up The Gills!
