Ainsworth could be just the man to lead Wycombe

As it’s clear to see its been a very difficult season so far at Wycombe Wanderers. One win all season and a string of defeats, saw Gary Waddock given the boot. A decision that no one can argue with, however its never nice seeing a good man lose his job. I have been a big supporter of Waddock, but even I felt that change was needed.

It seemed as though he had lost the dressing room, and players were going out expecting to lose. There was no passion or drive from the players and it looked as if Waddock had run out of ideas, a second relegation from League One clearly had affected him and the team.

In his defence he has been extremely unlucky with injuries, losing first team players to long-term injuries very early on in the season, such as: Marvin McCoy, Sam Wood, Matt Bloomfield, Grant Basey & Dennis Oli. However this doesn’t excuse other players from chasing the ball down, showing passion and drive, working for each other – and they have let down Waddock just as much as themselves.

Moving on. Hopefully onwards & upwards in League Two.

Gareth Ainsworth a true legend at Wycombe Wanderers, player, captain, coach and now caretaker manager, with a drive to make it permanent. It’s well known that Gareth is a player who gives 100% and more into everything he does whether it’s on or off the pitch – which has made him so popular with fans at every club he has played for in his career.

permanent

Fans aren’t expecting an immediate turn in form and results, but time is limited for Ainsworth and results are what will decide whether his role is made permanent – it’s his to lose.

One things for sure, the very minimum Ainsworth expects from his team is passion, drive, enthusiasm, and the love of football. Anything less and players senior or not – won’t be in the team. Players have been massively underperforming recently and our squad on paper should be no where near the bottom of League Two, it could well be a confidence issue.

I hope for Ainsworth’s sake that players will put in performances and pick up results so he is made the permanent manager of Wycombe. There are signs of improvement and we were unlucky not to take all three points on Tuesday night. We were denied by a terrific save from Plymouth’s keeper – but a draw was a fair result. Hopefully we can pick up a win on Saturday against Torquay, but it will be another difficult game and we mustn’t get carried away.

In the words of ‘Gazza’ keep on rocking! Gareth Ainsworth’s barmy army!
